Citizens of Ward 5,
Thank you for allowing me to serve as your 5th Ward City Councilperson. I am honored to serve on the council. I have and will continue to stand up and advocate on your behalf for the opportunities to improve our city. I will continue to turn our challenges into possibilities to improve in the areas of crime, parks, housing, taxes and environmental issues. I want to continue to lead as a fair, open councilperson who listens to you and works for your dreams for a better Rochester.
By getting to know me, you will see my commitment to making this city great. My family and I have been involved and invested in the Rochester community our entire lives. I am proud to have been born, raised and educated in Rochester. I take every opportunity I can to volunteer with organizations that make our city better. Some of my experiences with Rochester area opportunities include:
- Served as City Council member since 2018, re-elected with 72% of the vote in 2022
- Held position as Chairperson of Rochester Olmsted Council of Governments
- Held position as Chairperson of Olmsted County Environmental Commission
- Served two terms as President of Camp Olson YMCA board
- Honored as past Volunteer of the Year for Habitat for Humanity
- Committed to non-partisan governance and working for the benefit of all Rochester citizens
I have a strong background in innovation, construction, facilitation, collaboration and
instruction. I continue to volunteer, work, learn, teach and support the people of our
community as much as possible.
My leadership experience and knowledge is ready to handle the tough decisions that will come with this position. In the past I have strived to serve as a fair and impartial leader in the Rochester Council and I will continue to serve, volunteer in the community, and encourage city staff to try new approaches to old problems. I look forward to hearing from everyone in our city with their opinions about the issues, and I will actively listen to your ideas and act on them if possible. Some of my past listening has led to:
- Roundabout at Century High School/Viola Road
- East River Road NE, traffic calming measures
- Goose Egg Park, traffic successfully transformed into two-way traffic
- Morris Hills Park street calming
- Stone Point Drive traffic calming in front of park
Some of my major accomplishments on behalf of the city include:
- North Broadway rebuild, working with over 100 businesses and improving the infrastructure
- Worked with School District on pilot program to provide open gyms in all sections of Rochester over the winter
- Master Plans for both Silver Lake Park and Soldiers Field Park
- Elton Hills Bridge replacement
- Indian Heights Park funding
- Upgraded east shelter at Silver Lake Park
- Removal of the snow dump from Silver Lake Park
- Worked with the community to keep all four golf courses open with a sustainable funding plan that keeps historic Soldiers Field Golf Course open
As a councilperson, you need someone who is available and will inform the public and keep themselves engaged and involved. As a Ward 5 councilperson in Rochester I have a strong track
record of sharing information:
- Presentations to over 150 groups in Rochester
- Participates in monthly KROC update
- Regularly interviewed on the Belau Report
- Newsletter to his ward to keep residents informed, paid with his own funds
- Provided over 25 public informational sessions on Rochester sales tax extension
